Setting A Good Example

Watching someone you love, a friend or family member, and seeing them make a very tough but correct decision or action after they have observed you making that same decision or action can be one of the most humbling and honorable things I can think of.

I recently watched as a friend of mine made a very wise and life changing decision after pondering over his observation of me make the same decision. It was inspiring to see and hear from him how he had observed me make that decision and how he knew it made my life better, would make his better and if his friend could do it so could he. As you could image this could not have made me more happy, I effected another’s life in a positive way just by doing the right things myself. And it made me wonder what other effects I can and have created in others and the lives around them.

Setting a good example is part of the Way To Happiness, and you can follow this to make not just your life happier but also others around you. Here is that inspiring precept from the Way To Happiness written by L. Ron Hubbard.

Precept #6: SET A GOOD EXAMPLE

“There are many people one influences. The influence can be good or it can be bad.

If one conducts he life to keep these recommendations, one is setting a good example.

Others around one cannot help but be influenced by this, no matter what they say.

Anyone trying to discourage you is trying to do so because they factually mean you harm or are seeking to serve their own ends. Down deep, they will respect you.

Your own survival chances will be bettered in the long run since others, influenced, will become less of a threat. There are other benefits.

Don’t discount the effect you can achieve on others simply by mentioning these things and setting a good example in your own right.”

Today is L Ron Hubbard’s Birthday!

Today is Mr. L Ron Hubbard’s birthday! Traditionally just like many other religions, Scientology honors the birth of it’s founder. Mr Hubbard was born on March 13th, 1911 in Tilden Nebraska. As a boy he traveled with his father across America.

As well as in his childhood years he became a Boy Scout and at age 13 he became the youngest Eagle Scout in American history. Then still in his youth he was provided a unique opportunity to study under a Naval Officer who studied directly under Sigmund Freud and was taught about Psychoanalysis. This is what sparked his journey and interest into answering and unraveling the questions of the mind - since many of them where left unanswered with that practice. He was granted this opportunity from his father’s then current Naval career. And so Mr. Hubbard as a child traveled with his father upon a Naval ship throughout the world. Eventually discovering and unraveling the secretes of the mind through his journeys and studies of many cultures and civilizations throughout the entire world. Take Care Of Yourself - The Way To Happiness

One of the first precepts of The Way To Happiness is to “Take Care Of Yourself”. You can watch a really neat video of this precept one YouTube titled The Way to Happiness Video: Take Care of Yourself.

This first precepts has several key points that make up taking care of one self. Here are some of those points:

  1. Get care when you are ill
  2. Keep your body clean
  3. Preserve your teeth
  4. Eat properly
  5. Get rest

As promised before, I’m going to give some of my own real life examples of applying this. I’m going to give you can example of eating properly. Today candy, soda (pop), potato chips, and many other sweets are really available. Usually when I attend some sort of function for an organization such as a party, benefit or event of some kind at least one of those sweets I mentioned above is being offered as something to eat. I remember a distinct time then I was offered some pop and some other sugary foods I said to the host “no thanks”. It was just as simple as that. Which made me feel good that I kept my integrity in and did not eat those things. But the most amazing this was that the host and another guest said you know I really should not be eating this stuff too and they both did not eat it either. Very cool, by following and putting in my own Way To Happiness other put in theirs - which actually is another precept "Set a Good Example".

The Way To Happiness

What is the way to happiness? I thought it would be nice to write a post on how one can obtain happiness in life. As one wins at something this brings him pleasure but when one wins at life he experiences true happiness and greatness. And to find the answer to "what is happiness" I look to a book appropriately titled "The Way To Happiness" which is a moral code based wholly on common sense by L. Ron Hubbard.

I’ve read the book several times and continue to re-read it. It’s amazing how common sense can change your life and light the way towards happiness, freedom and greatness. The book consists of 21 basic principles that will guide you to lead a life of great quality and satisfaction.

I wanted to share this book with people because I want to see others gain the benefits I have from it plus trying to live in a world where it is chaotic, dishonest or generally immoral is rather hard and this book will help improve those conditions.

As I look around the world I see there can be change and things could and can be much better than they are. Much of the same way I look at my life and other around me, I know things can be better and we can all be much more happier than we are. So in the coming posts I’m going to write some of my own real life examples of applying the basic principles contained in the book The Way To Happiness, how I applied them and what success I’ve had from it.

Till then check out The Way To Happiness website or read the The Way to Happiness E-book
